Batter Up! Cooperstown Cookie Company™ Makes First Pitch
Classic Baseball Shortbread™ Cookie Hits Home Run
Cooperstown, N.Y., October 17, 2004—On Saturday and Sunday, October 23 & 24, the newly formed Cooperstown-based Cooperstown Cookie Company™ will launch its Classic Baseball Shortbread™ cookie during an annual popular family event at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and Doubleday Café in Cooperstown, NY.
A time-tested family recipe takes a new form in the Cooperstown Cookie Company's premiere product, a classic shortbread cookie in the regulation size and shape of baseballs that break along the stitching so you can share them with a friend. The playfully illustrated coincidences of baking and baseball are artfully interwoven throughout the product's packaging. The company draws upon local and regional talent, from illustrators, graphic designers and photographers supporting packaging and label design to the development of its website.
"We are a small company of people who want to provide visitors to Cooperstown with a superior tasting edible souvenir that evokes everything good there is about baseball - integrity, wholesomeness, tradition," says Pati Drumm Grady, founder and president of Cooperstown Cookie Company™. Pati brings first-hand knowledge of starting and growing businesses and a history of other entrepreneurial endeavors to the company. "Our products are locally produced and unique. We’re keeping the fun in baseball."
Using Pati’s traditional family recipe, the cookies are baked in small batches by hand using only the purest ingredients and time-honored skills at Pathfinder Village, a residential community in neighboring Edmeston, NY of adults and children who have Down syndrome. Every shortbread cookie remains free from artificial flavorings, colorings, and additives, and is uniquely packaged in a special decorative tin. And, just for fun, each tin contains baseball trivia (with assistance provided by the National Baseball Hall of Fame) highlighting how baseball and baking go hand-in-hand. For example, which dead ball era slugger, the only "Baker" in the Hall of Fame, acquired his nickname from his numerous round-trippers? If you answered Frank "Home Run" Baker, then you know your baseball. But, if you struck out, you can always find the answers on www.CooperstownCookieCompany.com.
The company shares a portion of its profits with Pathfinder Village to support residents' needs.
"Pathfinder Village is proud to be a partner with the Cooperstown Cookie Company™. This venture is a unique opportunity for us to build our bakery business to the benefit of our residents and continue our long history of collaborating with local enterprises and organizations. Cooperstown Cookie Company™, Pathfinder Village, and the Baseball Hall of Fame are a winning combination," states Edward Shafer, CEO of Pathfinder Village.
The Cooperstown Cookie Company™ will be offering samples at the always-popular family event, the Eighth Annual World Series Gala at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum on Saturday, October 23, beginning at 7:30 pm. Adults and children alike will enjoy watching the first game of the 2004 World Series from the home of baseball, as well as enjoy sampling the Classic Baseball Shortbread™ cookie. Activities include live entertainment, trivia contests, and children's games. A limited number of tickets for the World Series Game One Gala remain. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children, and are available exclusively to Friends of the Hall of Fame members. Tickets must be reserved in advance by calling (607) 547-0397.
Cookie tasting continues on Sunday, October 24, from 10 am to 12 pm, at The Doubleday Café, located at 93 Main Street in Cooperstown. The Cooperstown Cookie Company™ will provide cookies for sampling and purchase. This event is free and open to the public.
